This Privacy Policy explains how Teacher Assistant (“we”, “our”, “the Service”) collects, uses, and protects information. The Service is designed to minimize the handling of student data and support compliance with student privacy laws such as FERPA.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Teacher account information: name, email, authentication provider ID.
- Assignment data: answer keys, rubric definitions, and grading results.
- Student work: uploaded documents used for grading. These documents may contain student handwriting or typed responses.
3. Student Privacy
The Service is intentionally designed to avoid storing student personally identifiable information (PII). Specifically:
- we do not store student names, IDs, email addresses, or demographic information;
- we extract only student initials from documents for display purposes;
- we do not attempt to identify students or link initials to individuals;
- uploaded documents are deleted after analysis is complete;
- grading results contain no student PII.
4. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- provide grading assistance and analytics;
- improve the accuracy and performance of the Service;
- manage subscriptions and billing;
- maintain platform security and reliability.
5. Data Retention
Uploaded student documents are deleted after grading is complete. Teacher account information, assignment data, and grading results are retained as long as your account remains active or as required for billing and compliance.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell or share teacher or student data with third parties except:
- Stripe, for subscription billing;
- Auth0 or your authentication provider, for secure login;
- service providers necessary to operate the platform.
We do not share student work or grading results with advertisers or data brokers.
7. Security
We use industry‑standard security practices to protect data, including encryption in transit, secure authentication, and restricted access controls. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.
8. Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring your use of the Service complies with applicable student privacy laws and your institution’s policies. You must not upload documents containing unnecessary student PII.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
