Welcome to TeacherAssist.ai
TeacherAssist.ai is an AI-powered platform built specifically for K–12 educators. Our tools help you save time, personalize instruction, and create standards-aligned materials — so you can focus on what matters most: your students.
This policy explains how the platform works, what we do with your data, and what you can expect from us as your technology partner. We've written it in plain language because you deserve to know exactly what you're agreeing to.
TeacherAssist.ai is operated by LTC Inc., an Illinois S-Corporation. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this document refer to LTC Inc.
How We Use Artificial Intelligence
TeacherAssist.ai is powered by AI. Here's what that means for you.
- Grade both handwritten and typed student content
- Provide feedback aligned to your state standards
- Generate curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials
- Create differentiated instruction recommendations
- Suggest feedback on student work using your rubric and answer key
- Make final decisions about student grades — you always have final say
- Access student PII beyond what you explicitly submit
- Use your content or student work to train AI models
- Fabricate or misrepresent curriculum standards
- Retain uploaded student PDFs after grading is complete
AI Accuracy & Your Judgment
AI-generated content is a starting point, not a finished product. Always review AI output before sharing it with students. Our platform surfaces relevant standards alongside generated content to help you verify alignment — but you are the curriculum expert.
TeacherAssist.ai does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of AI-generated content. Educators retain full professional responsibility for all materials shared with students.
Your Privacy & Data
We take your privacy seriously. Here's a plain-language breakdown of what we collect and why.
What We Collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and school or district — used to create your account and for billing
- Usage data: features you use, assignments you create, and grading activity — used to improve your experience
- Content you create: lesson plans, assignments, curricula, and grading results stored in your account
- Uploaded files: PDFs you upload for grading — processed and permanently deleted from our servers upon completion of grading (see Section 3)
- Billing information: managed securely through Stripe — we never store credit card numbers on our servers
What We Do NOT Collect
- Student names, ID numbers, or other student PII — we encourage teachers to use initials or anonymized identifiers
- Biometric data, precise location data, or device fingerprinting beyond standard browser session logs
- Data from third-party platforms unless you explicitly connect them
How We Protect Your Data
All data is stored securely in Microsoft Azure infrastructure located in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher and encrypted at rest using AES-256. Access to your account data is limited to you and authorized TeacherAssist.ai personnel for support purposes only.
Data Retention
- Uploaded student PDFs: permanently deleted from our servers immediately upon completion of AI grading — not archived, not backed up after deletion
- Grading results: retained in your account for as long as your account is active
- Account data: retained until you request deletion or your account is closed
- Billing records: retained as required by law and Stripe's terms
Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share data only with trusted service providers (listed in Section 4) solely to operate the platform. These providers are bound by confidentiality and data processing agreements and may not use your data for their own purposes.
FERPA & Student Data
This section explains our specific obligations and practices with respect to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g.
Our Role Under FERPA
FERPA applies directly to schools and districts, not to vendors. However, when a school or district authorizes the use of TeacherAssist.ai, we operate as a "school official" with a "legitimate educational interest" as defined under 34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1). This means:
- We may only use student education records to provide the services you have authorized
- We are subject to the same FERPA conditions as school employees in this role
- We will not re-disclose student education records to any unauthorized party
- We will return or destroy student data upon request or at the end of a service relationship
What Student Data We May Encounter
TeacherAssist.ai is a teacher-facing tool. We do not have a direct relationship with students and do not solicit student PII. However, when you upload a class PDF for grading, that file may contain student work that includes student names or other identifiers. We treat any such content as protected education records and handle it accordingly:
- Uploaded PDFs are transmitted using TLS 1.2+ encryption
- Files are processed in isolated, session-specific environments
- Files are permanently and automatically deleted from our servers upon grading completion — they are not stored, archived, or used for any other purpose
- No TeacherAssist.ai employee reviews individual student submissions unless you explicitly request technical support and provide consent
To minimize student PII exposure, we recommend that teachers use student initials, ID numbers, or seat numbers instead of full names when setting up classes in TeacherAssist.ai. This is not required, but it reduces the amount of PII present in uploaded files.
What We Do Not Do With Student Data
- Sell, rent, or trade student education records or student PII to any third party
- Use student work or education records to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models
- Build advertising profiles based on student data
- Retain student-uploaded files beyond the active grading session
- Disclose student records to any party other than the submitting teacher and authorized platform operations personnel
Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)
Many schools and districts require a signed Data Processing Agreement with technology vendors before approving platform use. TeacherAssist.ai supports this process. We offer a standard DPA that:
- Designates TeacherAssist.ai as a school official under FERPA
- Defines the scope of authorized data use
- Commits to data security, breach notification, and data deletion obligations
- Identifies our AI subprocessors and their data handling obligations
- Is compatible with the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) model agreement framework
State Privacy Law Compliance
In addition to FERPA, many states have enacted their own student data privacy laws (such as Illinois SOPPA, California SOPPA, and similar statutes). TeacherAssist.ai is designed to comply with applicable state student privacy requirements. If your state has specific vendor certification or registration requirements, please contact us so we can work with you to meet those requirements.
Teacher Responsibility
It is your responsibility to ensure that your use of TeacherAssist.ai complies with your school or district's FERPA policies, technology acceptable use policies, and any applicable state law. If you are unsure whether you are authorized to upload student work to a third-party AI platform, please check with your district's technology or data privacy officer before doing so.
If your district requires a signed DPA before platform use, please obtain that agreement before uploading student materials.
AI Subprocessors & Third-Party Services
When student work passes through AI grading, it is processed by third-party AI providers. Here is a full disclosure of those providers and their data commitments.
TeacherAssist.ai uses the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each provider has been evaluated for data security and privacy practices appropriate for an educational context.
| Provider | Purpose | Data Processed | Trains on Your Data? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Gemini Google LLC |
AI grading of handwritten student work; reading PDFs | Uploaded PDF content during active grading session | No — by contract |
| Azure OpenAI (GPT-4o) Microsoft Corporation |
Curriculum generation; differentiated instruction; data assistant | Teacher-entered prompts and assignment content | No — by contract |
| Microsoft Azure Microsoft Corporation |
Cloud hosting, storage, database (Cosmos DB) | Account data, grading results, curriculum content | No |
| Auth0 Okta, Inc. |
User authentication and session management | Email address, login credentials (hashed) | No |
| Stripe Stripe, Inc. |
Payment processing and subscription management | Billing information (credit card data never stored by us) | No |
Both Google (Gemini API) and Microsoft (Azure OpenAI) contractually commit that data submitted via their enterprise APIs is not used to train, fine-tune, or improve their AI models. Your content and your students' work remains yours. We will update this table if we add or change AI providers.
Standards Alignment
Everything TeacherAssist.ai generates is designed to connect to the standards you're already teaching.
Supported Standards
Our platform currently supports state standards across Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. Examples include:
- Mathematical Practices (MP.1–MP.8) for grades K–12
- Grade-level domain standards for Kindergarten through Grade 8 (OA, NBT, NF, MD, G, RP, NS, EE, SP, F)
- High school standards in Number & Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability (grades 9–12)
How Standards Are Applied
When you create content, you can specify a grade level, domain strand, and standard code. The AI uses this information to generate aligned passages, questions, answer keys, and curriculum materials. Standard codes are displayed throughout the platform so you can verify alignment at a glance.
Standards Accuracy Disclaimer
While we work to maintain accurate standard mappings, AI-generated alignment suggestions should always be reviewed by you. Standards interpretations can vary by district and instructional context. TeacherAssist.ai does not warrant that generated content will satisfy any particular district, state, or federal compliance requirements.

Security Incident & Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a security incident, here is exactly what we will do and when.
TeacherAssist.ai maintains security monitoring across our Azure infrastructure and reviews access logs for anomalies. In the event of a confirmed or suspected security incident involving unauthorized access to user or student data, we will take the following steps:
Our Breach Response Procedure
- Contain: Immediately isolate affected systems to prevent further unauthorized access
- Assess: Determine the scope of the incident, what data was affected, and how access occurred
- Notify affected users: We will notify affected account holders within 72 hours of confirming a breach involving their account data
- Notify schools and districts: If student education records may have been affected, we will notify the relevant school or district within 72 hours of confirmation, consistent with FERPA's unauthorized disclosure requirements
- Notify authorities: Where required by applicable state law, we will notify relevant state regulators within the legally mandated timeframe
- Remediate: Identify and address the root cause; implement additional controls to prevent recurrence
- Document: Maintain a written incident record including scope, timeline, affected data, and remediation steps
Breach notifications to schools and districts will be sent to the email address on file for the account holder. If your district requires notifications to be sent to a specific data privacy officer or administrator, please provide that contact information when executing your Data Processing Agreement.
